It would definitely suck if the Substack pulled the plug on their RSS feed.
But Wordpress is obviously antiquated and much, much worse for writers. A few guys have already just up and given me some cash, without me even asking for it, just cause they like what I do and on Substack it's easy.
I should have made this transition two yeas ago but like a dumbass I didn't.
Wordpress doesn't have good mechanisms to encourage subscription of either the free or paid variety. I don't know why... by now they should... clearly it's a policy decision on their part. Substack makes it easy for readers who approve of RQ to throw a couple bucks my way to demonstrate their approval.
I should have switched in like 2020 but I did not.
There is a homogenizing effect to Substack design, which is to be lamented, but the overall mechanics are much better. Substack has a good app for reading, too.
All makes sense. Bit disappointed that the minimum monthly subscription you can offer is $5; I would happily throw a dollar or two towards a dozen subscriptions but probably not $10.
(Substack certainly is "safer" in terms of being less likely to nuke your site, I admit; I still have a weird fondness though for e.g. the old Slate Star Codex website and its design. Substack is a bit anemic in comparison)
This is a great decision. More and more of my favorite online writers are on Substack glad to see you make the switch
Substack is friendly to writers and Wordpress strangely hostile to them, in a way that has to be a deliberate choice on Wordpress's part. I should have done this years ago, https://theredquest.substack.com/p/imported-every-previous-red-quest
Glad you’re continuing to write. Thank you.
You're welcome, and we'll see if it persists... for new readers, he's referencing https://theredquest.wordpress.com/2022/10/29/the-post-about-there-not-being-much-left-for-me-to-say-while-encouraging-other-guys-to-carry-on/
Substack is great, but I consume blogs via RSS and worry that at some point substack will pull the plug on their RSS feed.

What did you end up disliking about Wordpress?
