Imo he writes well, and to my taste the tangents/linking is not excessive. However, when I try to read astralcodexten or other rationalist sites, I have the exact same criticisms you mention above - everything is way too long and references too many obscure concepts, etc. Different blogs are aimed at different types of people, I'm just not in astralcodex's target audience. I doubt redquest is trying for mainstream appeal, nor should he be. The beauty of the internet is don't have to appeal to the masses - you can choose to write for a very specific niche and still find success
